Workers' Compensation and Case Management Software: The Devil Is in the Details

For any law firm that has handled a workers' compensation case, they can testify to the complexity of not only the laws themselves, but the large amounts of data involved. Being able to handle the myriad of details that accompany a workers' comp case can be overwhelming if you don't have a good system in place. And as with most everything today, that means utilizing technology.
The details for this type of case are voluminous. For example, the date and details of the accident, the employer's insurance information, the employee's medical expenses, the statute of limitations, and the employee's wage details to name just a few. The deadlines and documentation necessary to a workers' comp case can be tremendous. Luckily, there is a way to not only get a handle on all these details, but to handle them with proficiency.
Case management software can be employed in your firm to not only track the details of the case itself, but also the documents and email, both sent and received; the deadlines imposed by the courts; the parties involved such as factual and expert witnesses, medical providers, insurance adjusters and opposing counsel; and all the financial details surrounding the case such as demands, settlement offers and costs related to the case. Of course, this information can be tracked with simple programs such as Access and Excel, but is that truly the best way?
In today's competitive legal market, the most successful law firms are the ones that utilize comprehensive, legal-specific software that can be customized to fit not only the requirements of the firm, but also the requirements of their clients and the courts they practice in. Tracking the details and information surrounding the case is one thing; being able to quickly access that information without having to go to several different places can significantly increase your efficiency and subsequently, increase the number of cases you are able to handle at a given time.
Can you quickly and easily find all upcoming deadlines on your cases? Can you quickly and easily find all demands and settlement offers? Can you quickly and easily find the contact information for the opposing counsel? What if you could see all this information aggregated on one screen or in a report? The technology exists to help you better manage your cases so it's up to you to decide if a piecemeal solution is the best solution for you and your clients. The devil is in the details, but they don't have to bedevil you if you choose an integrated case management software solution built specifically for workers' compensation law practices.
